Disaster Services
Disaster Services focus is on preparedness, education and relief. The American Red Cross volunteers work
year round, 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, to respond to hurricanes, floods, fires and other significant
incidents. This Chapter has a 15 member Disaster Action Team (DAT) that responds to community needs. In
addition, we also offer free information on preparing for certain types of disasters and minimizing their
traumatic impact which, in turn, will help save lives and reduce property loss.
The Chapter DAT responded to 6 disasters this fiscal year and
assisted
10 people with food, shelter and clothing.

Armed Forces Emergency Services
AFES focus is on emergency communications. Volunteers are always available to provide prompt and reliable
communications for service members and their families. Whether during peacetime or conflict, at home,
around the world or on ships at sea, members of the Armed Forces, their families and veterans can call on
the Red Cross for assistance.
The Chapter assisted with 12 military calls this fiscal year.

Blood Services
Blood Services focus is on  always being prepared with an adequate blood and blood
products supply for area patients and hospitals. Our Chapter works with the Red Cross Blood
Services, local businesses and organizations to plan and administer blood drives throughout the year.
The Chapter held 31 blood drives and 1116 pints of blood were received.

Project Share
Project share focuses on providing assistance to the elderly or disabled who have electric shut-off notices.
Working in conjunction with the New York State Electric & Gas Corp. (NYSEG), our Chapter plays a critical
role in insuring these vital services are not interrupted.
The Chapter processed 19 Project Share applications and assisted many other applicants.
We continue to be a referral center when we cannot assist.

Loan Closet
Loan Closet focuses on needs of our community members during times of illness. These health
related aids are on loan for a three month period. Our chapter can provide hospital beds, wheelchairs,
crutches, canes, walkers, shower seats and commodes through this program.
The Chapter loaned out 118 pieces of equipment this fiscal year.

International Services
International Services focuses on International Humanitarian Law, Holocaust and War Victims tracing.
Worldwide there is a vast network of organizations that assist in breaking the silence of the imposed
separation of family due to war, conflict or disaster.
The Red Cross worldwide communication system brings comfort to countless people by locating missing
loved ones and relaying family messages when regular channels of communication are severed.
The Chapter has not had to respond to any of these calls this year.

Health and Safety Services
Health and Safety Services focus on: CPR/AED, First Aid, Child Care, Babysitter Training,
Injury Prevention, Life Guarding,  Swimming/Water Safety. Courses are offered throughout the communities
we serve to train in these vital life skills. Many local businesses and schools work with the Chapter to bring
this training to our residents throughout the year.
The Chapter provided training for 582 area
residents in the last fiscal year.

Our Chapter…
It is a privilege for this chapter to be known
as the Clara Barton Chapter #1 in honor of the American Red Cross founder,
Clara Barton. During the later 1800’s, Miss Barton spent several years in the
Dansville area, residing here and returning to visit. In honor of her, the community
organized and established the first official chapter of the American Red Cross.
In Miss Barton’s own words,
“ It must never be forgotten that Dansville was the
first child of the American Red Cross.”

We are still proudly serving the Dansville area and surrounding communities.
Serving the communities of North Dansville, Wayland, Springwater, Sparta, Ossian, West Sparta, Groveland Station, Sonyea and Perkinsville
